You can easily replicate this simple recipe at home. Spread one side of two slices of bread with butter, top one piece of bread with a slice (or two or three) of cheddar cheese, and then place the other piece of bread on top to form the sandwich. If not, have no fear. You can place the sandwich in a skillet over medium heat, and then grill it using a spatula, until it’s lightly browned, and flip. Do the same on the other side.
Once the sandwich is grilled, John learns a cool technique: lightly squish the sandwich down, with your fingers, to make sure the cheese bonds. Yum!
Can you guess what it’s paired with? The classic partner to grilled cheese: tomato soup! This combo hits the spot every time.
If you want to jazz up a classic, here are five more unique grilled cheese sandwiches:
- Sub cheddar cheese for brie. Add sliced pears.
- Add tuna to create a tuna melt.
- Spread sundried tomatoes and olive tapenade on the top of the bread and use mozzarella cheese.
- Add pulled pork for a BBQ twist!
- Top your grilled cheese sandwich with a fried egg.
