We Made That Famous Salad From TikTok, and Here Is What We Think

Packed with crunchy greens and coated in a “Green Goddess” dressing, this is a perfect afternoon snack.

If you’re on TikTok or have kids or grandkids around who are fans of the social media app, you may have heard about the famous “Tik Tok Salad” that is inspiring everyone to bust out their knives and cutting boards. Originally created by Baked By Melissa, this dish consists of crunchy greens, a “Green Goddess” dressing, and can be eaten by itself or with chips and crackers.

After hearing so much buzz about this healthy snack, our team had to try making it in our test kitchen. And if you’re anything like us, we’re trying to start the year off “right” by incorporating more salads into our diet, so we’re always on the lookout for creative ways to get our vegetables in.

The original recipe has more of a chopped salad consistency, while the version we created is more like a slaw.

Ingredients

  • 1 Iceberg Lettuce
  • 1 Cabbage
  • 1 Medium Cucumber
  • Handful of green (spring) onion
  • 1 lemon (squeezed)
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 handful fresh basil
  • 1 handful cashews
  • 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Baked by Melissa’s “Tik Tok Salad”

Gather all of your ingredients, and start chopping away. We liked the idea of getting the “hard” part of the recipe done first, which is finely slicing all of the green elements.
- 1 iceberg lettuce
- 1 cabbage
- 1 medium cucumber
- Handful of green onion (or spring onion)

Chop to your desired consistency, and place in a large mixing bowl.

Next, place your “Green Goddess” dressing ingredients in a blender:

- Handful of basil leaves
- Handful of spinach
- Handful of nuts (we went with cashews)
- 1 medium lemon (squeezed)
- 4 tablespoons of of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast (but we’ve heard flour works just fine)
- Dash of coarse sea salt

Blend up all of those ingredients to your desired consistency. We kept going until we achieved a pesto-like consistency.

Mix everything together, and you’re done!

Plate and serve on its own, or serve with chips or crackers.

Our Verdict:

With its crunchy texture, and bright and citrusy dressing, we are big fans of this viral salad. We even think adding some other vegetables to the slaw (like kale), or adding a bit of spice to the dressing can continue to make this recipe a staple snack in our households.

Enjoy!
