Christmas trees are not one size fits all. Do you enjoy a strong scent? How large is your living room space? Are you okay with a bit of cleanup? There are tons and tons of different types of Christmas trees. Here’s one thing we can all agree on: it’s not Christmas without one!

If you’re wondering which type of christmas tree is the best for you and your family, read on!

If you love that Christmas tree scent: Douglas Fir

According to the National Christmas Tree Association, these are one of the top Christmas tree species in America. When their needles, which are typically 1 to 1 ½ inches in length, are crushed, they give off the most fragrant Christmas tree smell we all know and love! This tree tends to be nice and full, giving it that classic holiday look.

If you’re not a fan of that Christmas tree scent or are allergic to sap: Leyland Cypress

This tree, most popular in the southeast, does not have much of an aroma at all. The colors can vary from dark green to more gray, and the branches have a feathery appearance. But most importantly, this tree does not produce sap, making it perfect for those with allergies.

If you’ve got tons and tons of ornaments you want to hang: White Spruce

This tree has short, stiff needles, ideal for holding up all of your Christmas ornaments and decorations. It grows in a pyramidal shape, so your Christmas tree topper will suit this tree well. Fun fact: this is the state tree of North Dakota! So when your kids create ornaments at school, or you are gifted one from a close friend, there is sure to be space for it (and the strength to hold the ornaments up!).

If you want to build a wreath from your tree: Balsam Fir

The Balsam Fir is another popular option amongst Americans. This tree has needles that last a long time, meaning you can repurpose your tree to create a beautiful wreath. Balsam Fir has that classic dark-green coloring and similar to the Douglas Fir, will give your home that strong, spicy Christmas tree scent. So next time you're looking to get some mileage out of a tree, try bringing home a beautiful Balsam Fir!

If you’ve got a small space: Colorado Blue Spruce

The Colorado Blue Spruce is known for its bluish-gray color as well as its symmetrical form, yet it is more narrow than other popular trees. The Baby Blue Eyes Spruce is a particular type of Colorado Spruce which is very close in characteristics to a dwarf evergreen tree. At maturity, this smaller version of the Colorado Spruce is only 10-15 inches tall.

If you don’t enjoy the clean-up process of having a tree: Balsam Hill Blue Spruce Artificial Christmas Tree

The right artificial Christmas tree can check all the boxes, so don't rule them out quite yet! These days, there are so many faux trees that look real, no one will ever know. We like this Balsam Hill Blue Spruce Artificial Christmas tree, available on Amazon, because of its amazingly realistic appearance. The benefits of an artificial Christmas tree include the ability to use the same one year after year, making it an affordable choice in the long run, as well as the obvious, no pine needle cleanup required!
