How to Give Your Bedroom a Refresh for the New Year
If you’re looking to upgrade your home in 2021, look no further than your bedroom. Simple swaps and upgrades can make all the difference and we’ve got you covered on how to make those changes.
Home renovations may not be in your 2021 forecast, but you can still give your living space a refresh if you’re looking for some change in the new year. We’re focusing particularly on your bedroom: it’s here where you begin and end your day. A bedroom that you love will have a calming effect on your mind and improve your happiness. Here are a few tips to help you make your bedroom your favorite place in the home!
Give Your Walls a Refresh with New Paint
If your room is a dreary color or lacking warmth, it’s probably not motivating you to begin your day on an uplifting note. Pick a color that speaks to you, however, consider that blues, violets, and light grays have been touted for having a soothing effect on your mood. If you want to be on trend in 2021, Pantone has named a light gray paired with an illuminating yellow as their color of the year. Learn more about this winning duo here.
Create an Accent Wall Using Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper
Wallpaper was once considered outdated but now it’s making a comeback! With tons of peel-and-stick options on the market, you can play with wallpaper without committing to having it up forever. This is especially great for renters who aren’t able to make serious renovations to their homes. There are entire companies, like Chasing Paper, just selling this type of wallpaper, so options of patterns and colors are endless. An entire room may be overkill, so we suggest choosing one larger wall to display the wallpaper on.
Un-Match Your Furniture
Matching furniture sets are certainly convenient, but a mismatched look will give your room more individuality and style. Substitute your matching nightstand with a new one that takes on a different look. You can find affordable options from online retailers like Target, Wayfair, AllModern and Amazon. Look for complimentary pieces in color and design.
Consider a Chandelier
Chandeliers are often used to class-up entryways or dining spaces, but they can also do wonders in the bedroom. A chandelier over the bed not only looks elegant but also provides additional lighting if needed. Place it either over the middle of the bed or the headboard, and make sure the bottom of the chandelier is at least 7 feet above the floor.
Change Up Your Bedding
If your bedding is mismatched or not adding much in the way of design to the room, a few simple adjustments will make all the difference. Make sure your duvet or comforter is complemented by the color of your sheets. Use accent pillows of different colors, textures, and fabrics to make your bedding part of your overall room design. If you have a solid white comforter consider adding not only pillows but also a lighter-weight blanket. Draping it over the end of the bed can bring in more color and warmth to the room. Remember how important it is to make your bed every morning -- especially when you have a beautiful bedding set you’ll want to show off!
Add Curtains to Your Windows
Basic shades have a function, but they don’t add much fashion to your room. Adding curtains is another simple way to bring color and design to your bedroom. You’ll need to install a curtain rod and possibly rings, depending on the curtains you purchase, above the window. Aim to go high and wide above that window so that your curtains will give the illusion of a larger room. The curtains shouldn’t drag on the floor but should simply “kiss” it. Coordinate your bedspread colors with the curtains for a clean and organized look.
