Here at DABL, we love to change up the vibes in our homes to really celebrate the joys of each season. As temperatures drop and we prepare for winter, here are five suggestions on how to welcome winter into your home.
Decorate Your Mantle or Shelving
If you have a mantle or a hanging shelf, we encourage you to swap out your decor to welcome the winter season. Hanging stockings double as decorations for those who celebrate Christmas. For our Jewish friends, display a beautiful menorah like this one. If you celebrate Kwanzaa, your kinara will also add a warming vibe to your home.
Use this cotton fake snow to cover most of the mantle, and then you can add these mini glittered snowmen to create an adorable winter scene. Winter white floral garlands like this one also look beautiful draped across a mantle or shelf.
Light Scented Candles
When we think of winter, there are certain smells that come to mind: pinecones, warm cookies, cinnamon, and so much more. Luckily, there’s a candle out there for all of them! One of our favorites is this Santa’s Natural Fraser Fir Christmas Candle, which has the scent of fresh cut Christmas trees. Another one that screams winter is Dianne’s Custom Candles in Winter Spice that bundles a bunch of winter scents like cinnamon, clove, and bitter orange, all into one candle.
Place a Winter Doormat Outside Your Door
If you live in a snowy climate, a doormat has a very practical use. Let is double as seasonal decor when you find one like this that not only welcomes guests, but also, the season. Or, choose a doormat that adds a winter color-scheme to your entrance. You can go with rich jewel tones like ruby, magenta and sapphire blue. If you’re inspired by the weather outside, look for a doormat that has icy blues, cool grays, and snowy whites.
Hang a Decorative Wreath on the Front or Back of Your Door
Wreaths invoke feelings of winter, and this year, if you’re having less visitors than normal, why not consider putting it on the reverse side of the door? Pinecones and berries make this wreath stand out and this How the Christmas Thief Stole Burlap Wreath will give you a chuckle every time you see it.
Add Throw Blankets to Your Couch and Chairs
Blankets in and of themselves are great winter accessories, but find the right one, and it can add to the look of your living room. Velvet is a great winter fabric, and this Exclusivo Mezcala Luxury Flannel Velvet Plush Throw Blanket comes in a variety of colors. To bring out those jewel tones, we like the blanket in either teal or burgundy. Flannel patterns will also bring the winter vibe to your home, and this Touchat Sherpa Fleece Blanket is so comfortable, you’ll want to be wrapped up in it, sipping hot cocoa, listening to holiday music, all winter long!
