Check Your Closet For These Hot Trends That Are Making A Comeback!
Here’s your breakdown of the latest old fashion trends that have found new popularity in 2021!
It may be time to break out your hottest outfits from decades past! Fashion is cyclical, and several styles that were put to rest long ago have been making a comeback lately. Most recently, Gap has decided to re-release a vintage hoodie that hasn’t been sold since the early 2000s after the sweatshirt went massively viral on TikTok. This got us thinking about all the fashion trends that have become “cool” again, and how many you probably already own that are collecting dust in the back of your closet! Whether you want to embrace your inner fashionista or are looking for a gift for your kid, make sure to check your wardrobe for these 7 trends!
The Gap
After Gap’s vintage hoodie went viral on social media, we’ve decided it’s a good idea to hold on to all our old Gap clothing! It’s not every day that a piece of clothing gets more than 5.8 million views on TikTok, and we think this company could be onto something. The viral video caused the hoodie to sell for up to $300 on resell sites, so even if you don’t want to wear the next hot thing from Gap, you might be able to make a big profit from the trend!
Vintage & Retro Band T-Shirts
If you’re like us, you’ve probably accumulated quite the collection of band T-shirts to remember shows and concerts over the years. If so, you’ll be glad to know that these T-shirts are now all the rage in the fashion world. Whether your favorite band is Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, or another group entirely, wear them proudly on your shirt! Vintage band shirts often look nice as part of a jeans and sweater ensemble, or can be dressed up with a blazer for a classier, modern look.
Looser Fitting Pants
Women have been wearing pants in Western society since the 1970's, but they didn’t start out wearing jeggings or skinny jeans. Pants were considered to be fashionable from the beginning, but in the early days, comfort, modesty, and functionality were key. Therefore, pants often fit looser than you typically see now. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused comfort and fashion to merge, and now loose fitting pants are considered to be cool again!
Mom Jeans
“Mom Jeans” is a slang term for a type of high-waisted jeans that originally gained popularity in the early 1980's. By the early 2000s, mom jeans were frequently worn by middle aged women. However, America’s youth have now embraced the wonderful qualities mom jeans have to offer, making them a fashion hit across generations.
Bell Bottoms
If you thought bell bottom pants died with disco, think again! Flare jeans are a modern take on the bell bottom pants from the 70’s, alluding to the bell shape that gave these pants their name to varying degrees. Depending on which brand you buy, the amount of flare the jeans have will vary. That said, flare jeans can be extremely flattering and slimming, and look stunning with just about any pair of shoes!
Bucket Hats
Bucket hats probably have the most interesting history of any item on this list. Did you know that bucket hats were invented in the early 1900’s as a purely functional item to protect Irish fishermen from the rain while they were at sea? Starting in the 1950’s, American troops in Vietnam adopted bucket hats from the Irish as a way to protect their necks from sunburns. Bucket hats weren’t considered to be remotely fashionable until the mod movement in the 1960’s, and their popularity didn’t really take off until the 1980’s when bucket hats became iconic in the hip hop community. Now, bucket hats are popular all over again! If you don’t have one already, make sure to add a stylish new bucket hat to your wardrobe.
Doc Marten’s
Doc Marten’s have come back into style time and time again since their inception in the 1940’s, and were particularly popular in the 1990’s. They were called the hottest boot trend of 2020 by Style Report Magazine. If you didn’t get to wear your Doc Marten’s enough last year due to COVID-19 quarantines, take solace in knowing that these boots are more popular than ever and you will have plenty of opportunities to show your pair off in 2021!
